When Heat Eludes You: What We Track Down
When your heating goes rogue in the dead of winter, panic can set in. Here's what we chase and tame:
-
Icy Silence from the Vents: Furnace on, house still an icebox? We scrutinize thermostats, blocked filters, or stubborn ignitions.
-
Short-Circuiting Warmth: If your furnace won’t stay on long enough to matter, it might be battling a filthy filter, a moody flame sensor, or congested ventwork.
-
Haunted Furnace Sounds: Banging, whining, shrieking? That symphony of doom could mean a loose cog, faltering motor, or a burner begging for attention.
Is Your AC Crying for Help?
In a Sparta summer, your AC must perform like a symphony, not a kazoo. Watch for these distress flares:
-
Hot Air Instead of Cool Bliss: Often tied to dwindling refrigerant, an exhausted compressor, or a coil clogged to oblivion.
-
Puddles Where There Should Be None: May signal a blocked drain or a frozen evaporator — either way, it’s a cry for help.
-
Ominous Odours or Noisy Whirs: Electrical trouble, microbial build-up, or malfunctioning components could be the culprits.

Arrived onsite to install wifi thermostat that works both heating and cooling system. Installed Honeywell Gateway and wireless equipment interface device. Connected furnace 24 volts to power the interface and thermostat. Installed wireless Honeywell thermostat. Connected furnace to W2 Aux Heat. For Mitsubishi air handler, installed thermostat adapter. Connected W1; Y1; G; and common. Confirmed operation of equipment.

Self contained dehumidifier with a manual humidistat, does not include additional electric if required.

Went and did an estimate on the unit in the attic.

Followed up on maintenance for both AC systems. Confirmed cooling. Checked pressures in second floor system. System is cooling and running within manufacturer’s specification. Both systems running as they should.

Arrived on site for maintenance. Checked air handler in attic. Some rust on evaporator coils. Unit was already running cooling. Condenser ran normally. Due to an incident, another company (irrelevant to hvac) accidentally ruined a line set. "Fixed" issue but instead of refilling unit with R22, they refilled it with R438A. Pressures were ok. Superheat a bit high. Delta T: 15 degrees Washed down condenser with chemical and water. Customer seems interested in a new unit, possibly a mini split. Updated customer with information/status. Customer acknowledged and signed off.

Arrived onsite for thermostat issue. Found no power to the thermostat. Checked the breakers and confirmed power. Found a bad fuse. Replaced the fuse and confirmed operation. If system continues to blow fuses we can perform a search for a low voltage short.

Includes replacing of standard fiberglass air filter (pleated higher performance filters can be added at an additional cost) , includes replacing blower belt (if applicable), grease or oil bearings, chemically clean the condensing unit, clean the condensate drain line, check operation of all safety devices, check operation of operating controls, check all motors, compressor and refrigerant charge, visual inspection of the duct system. With a Comfort Club service you will also receive the added benefits of a 10% discount on repairs and diagnostic fees, service within 48 hours of placing the call and a water heater flush

We will diagnose the system to determine what type of additional work or repairs is necessary to restore the system back to proper working conditions.

Agree to customer upon arrival, customer led me to the units downstairs in the basement which is one furnace and one air handler. There's also a unit in the Attic. Two thermostats on the first floor, smart thermostat for heater, old thermostat for ac. One thermostat upstairs inside of a bedroom. Air handler downstairs filter is pulverized the attic is not. Filter for upstairs unit is in a return register in the hallway on the ceiling. Both units temperature difference were tested with temperature probes. Basement unit temperature peaked at 14° difference while attic peaked at 16° difference, it was 60° F outside at the time. Wash down condensers with just water outside. Changed pulverized filter, customer said she changed the filter for upstairs.

Arrived onsite for ac maintenance on 2 systems . Turn AC on to confirm operation. Chemically Cleaned outside coils on both systems. Basement unit. Checked all electrical. measured pressures for 410a at 107/204psi with 11 degree sub cooling with outside temperature at 59 degrees. Measured temperature drop at 15 degrees. Cleaned evaporator coil and condensate line. Filled trap with water. Changed 213 filter. Performed efficiency test utilizing MeasureQuick. System running as it should.

Arrived onsite for ac maintenance on 2 systems. Standard split AC system and an Inverter Heat Pump with Air Handler system. Asked customer to turn AC on to confirm operation. Cleaned both condensers coils First floor system. Standard AC Split system. Checked all electrical. measured pressures for R22 at 50/121psi with 3 degree sub cooling with outside temperature at 56 degrees.. Measured temperature drop at 23 degrees. Cleaned evaporator coil and condensate line. Changed 20x25x1 filter. Performed efficiency test utilizing MeasureQuick. System received an C+ grade but mainly for age not cooling ability. System maybe slightly low on phased out R22 refrigerant but is running as it should.

Arrived onsite for thermostat issue. Found no power to the thermostat. Checked the breakers and confirmed power. Found a bad fuse. Replaced the fuse and confirmed operation. If system continues to blow fuses we can perform a search for a low voltage short. Homeowner interested in gas conversion of oil burner and new AC unit in the Den.

Arrived onsite for maintenance of 3 ac systems. Found the condensers buried under leaves which would block the air flow to properly cool the refrigerant and may cause the system to fail. Removed all the leaves. Found significant amount of dirt inside the compartments probably from being down hill rain and mud get into the cabinet and clogged the drain holes. All debris and dirt has been removed from inside all 3 condensers.

Arrived onsite for maintenance for one gas fired high efficiency boiler. Requested the customer turn on the thermostats up to heat and confirm operation of the boiler and each zone valve. Turned the boiler off and removed heat exchanger cover. Cleaned heat exchanger. Performed a visual inspection of all electrical and inspected all external water components such as the exp tank, fill valve, backflow preventer and the circulator pump. Clear condensate lines. Confirmed system is operating and heating properly at this time. Homeowner mentioned a previous issue with an outdoor sensor and the need for the control board to be reprogram. Will follow up with the office.

Installed new 90% hot air propane gas furnace. We removed the old system set and leveled the new furnace. We adapted mounted sealed all the ductwork. We piped in gas , flu and drain and checked for leaks. We converted unit to propane and left natural gas conversion next to furnace. We wired and high and low voltage. We ran unit insured everything was operating properly. Everything is operational at this time.

Arrived on late for no heat call on basement furnace. Found a fault in the exhaust system; and a fault in the combustion drainage system; and a fault in the electronic control system. The flue pipe was not properly connected. This lead to combustion condensation from dripping into the furnace and ruining parts, rusting out the system. Also believe there is a combustion leak in the flue collection box. Also, observed clog in the combustion drainage system which led to more leaks. There is rust on the high efficiency blower motor. This component is due to fail at any moment. There is water spots on the control board. Received error code for water sensor. Cleaned that system. Checked the sensors. Checked the wiring. They aren’t in great shape but the are passing a signal. The control module is not properly processing the water sensor signal and kicking out an error code. This is appears to have been from the water leaking on the electronics. Will obtain a quote for replacing the part.

Arrived onsite for heating issue on Cole Kent high efficiency gas fired furnace. Performed diagnostic and found the flame severely rolling out on startup. The flame would correct itself on the second or third try. Performed inspection of combustion component and drains. Clear combustion drain. Confirmed that combustion condensate water was not the issue. Inspected the flue pipe for blockages. Did not find a blockage but found the concentric flue pipe under the deck which could cause acidic moist air to be sucked into the furnaces fresh air pipe this would greatly reduce the life of the furnace, Cleaned and inspected the burners and gas orifaces, inspected combustion pressure sensors. Did not see a problem.
